Pink
Eye
An eye that
looks pink or red is indeed pink eye! But there are a number of
causes for this common ailment. There are viruses or bacteria
that can make the eye look horrible. There are allergies
that require specific types of drops. There are foreign bodies
such as dust or dirt that can scratch the cornea and cause pink
eye. Rarely, there are other more serious causes, such as glaucoma
or rheumatologic diseases. We’ll need to see your child
in the office in order to determine the situation.
It’s
advisable to make a same-day sick appointment and come see us
when your child’s eyes first start getting red. If it’s
the middle of the night, I would recommend administering artificial
tears for comfort and then coming to the office first thing in
the morning.
